Ugly Betty to shoot an episode in The Bahamas in October

The show(ugly betty) is heading to the Bahamas next month to shoot an episode on location at the Atlantis Resort and Casino, EW’s Ausiello reports.

Most of the cast is going (wouldn’t you HATE the be one of the cast NOT going?). The episode they are filming will air in November and revolve around a big Mode photo shoot.
Ausiello’s source says, “Location shoots can make or break you as an editor, so it’s a big deal for Betty. There’s also some drama with a certain love triangle.”

The triangle involves Betty, Matt and an unnamed third party. I’m going to refrain from commenting on this for now, till we find out more. If it’s a one-time thing played for comedy, great. If the producers are actually introducing a new multi-episode, sappy and drawn out Betty love triangle, they are going to the well one too many times, and might do fatal damage to the show just when it seems to really be hitting a Friday night stride.

There is one possibility to consider, though. Perhaps it is Matt who has two suitors. Maybe even Amanda is after him? There’s something about the way Ausiello worded the spoiler that makes me think it’s another woman.

You know, television shows, back in the day, used to do this sort of thing all the time. The infamous Happy Days “jumping the shark” episode involved a beach trip for the Milwaukee-based show. I also remember a Hawaii trip on Sanford and Son.

Yaya Dacosta to Join ABC's 'UGLY BETTY'

Stage and screen actress, as well as runner-up in Cycle 3 of America's Next Top Model, Yaya DaCosta, will take over the recurring role of Wilhelmina's defiant daughter Nico on ABC's 'Ugly Betty' this season.

Nico first appeared on in season two of Ugly Betty and was played by Jowharah Jones

'Ugly Betty' is a Golden Globe and Emmy winning comedy starring America Ferrera in the title role, along with Eric Mabius, Judith Light, Rebecca Romijn and Vanessa Williams. The series premiered on September 28, 2006, on ABC in the US, and follows the adventures of the unglamorous and good-natured Betty Suarez (Ferrera), and her incongruous job at the ultra-chic New York City fashion magazine Mode.

'Ugly Betty' returns for its fourth season on October 9, 2009 and will air on Friday nights at 9pm.

Yaya DaCosta is a formidable young actress who is making her mark in film with stand out performances in Take the Lead with Antonio Banderas and Honeydripper where she co-starred along with Danny Glover and Charles S. Dutton. On television she was last seen in a breakout performance in the Lifetime Network motion picture Racing for Time, as well as a recent featured role on All My Children. Fans of America's Next Top Model will remember her as a favorite contestant in the popular series third season. And while she has graced the pages of many top fashion magazines, her real passion has always been acting. She knew from the age of 11 that it was her true calling, and was soon doing plays and educational films in her hometown of New York City not long after starting her journey as an actor. Yaya studied dance at The Harlem School of The Arts and The Alvin Ailey American Dance Center, and spent junior high school at the magnet performing arts school Manhattan East Jr. High School. She is graduate oF Brown University.

In the Signature Theatre Company's acclaimed recent production of Leslie Lee's drama, The First Breeze Of Summer, Miss DaCosta essayed the pivotal role of 'Lucretia', a lively and free-willed woman who's latter-day incarnation, played by Leslie Uggams, revealed the complicated choices her younger self had to ultimately make to keep her family together.

Betty tries to help Megan out on an assignment and connects with a thoughtful insect jewelry designer, Olivia (Lynn Redgrave), while Justin starts high school and is victimized by bullies-but won't tell his mom, Hilda. Claire Meade is finding that her power struggle at the company has her sitting pretty - for the moment -- opposite Wilhemina, who lost her claim to the Meade throne last season. But Wili has perhaps an even bigger problem than job security - she is harboring a secret at home that is driving Marc to distraction.

In "The Butterfly Effect," Part 2 (9:00-10:00 p.m.), Betty gets to run her own Mode photo shoot at the United Nations to promote their anti-malaria initiative, "Nothing but Nets," but her big opportunity becomes a baptism by fire when Daniel's neediness takes its toll, and Matt openly demoralizes her. Meanwhile, Amanda does some soul-searching when she bonds with Daniel's new temp, Helen (Kristen Johnston), a career receptionist as fabulous as Amanda is. Wili makes it her personal mission to protect a loved one, and Hilda reaches out to Marc to figure out how to help Justin.

Ugly Betty's Vanessa Williams

Actress and songstress Vanessa Williams made history as the first African-American Miss America — who then launched a successful music and acting career after her reign ended in scandal.

As the devious Wilhelmina Slater on the small-screen hit, “Ugly Betty,” Vanessa plays the classic vixen we love to hate.

In addition to preparing for the upcoming season of “Ugly Betty” and preparing for Back to School season with her four children, Vanessa has been busy working with Dress for Success, an organization that helps disadvantaged women succeed in the workforce, and educates them about quick and simple beauty tips for the workplace.

Ugly Betty's 'Mode After Hours' Series Coming Back

We have all heard the saying “when the cat is away, the mice will play.” In this particular case, it’s the Executive Assistant and the Receptionist at a high-end fashion magazine that are the ones doing the playing.

Mode After Hours is a spin-off webseries that follows two characters from the popular ABC dramedy series Ugly Betty and their office antics when the rest of the staff has gone home. Marc St. James (Michael Urie) and Amanda Tanen (Becki Newton) are “besties forever” and their frantic and odd devotion to each other is topped only by their disturbing obsession with themselves. From Amanda’s “Me Pile” (packages delivered to the office that mysteriously end up “lost in the mail” only to be opened by Amanda when she’s feeling down) to Marc’s pretending he is babysitting a newborn just so he can stalk Jake Gyllenhaal, these two are dysfunctional with a capital func. But whether you identify with them in a “hey, I know people like that” way or just thank the heavens you aren’t anything like them, there is something about Amanda and Marc’s relationship that keeps you watching. Kind of like how you slow down to watch a car on fire on the side of the road.

According to a behind the scenes episode on ABC.com, “the idea for the webisodes came out of the idea that we always want to give our fans more content”, stated Lisa Schomas, Co-Producer for Ugly Betty. Beginning in September of ‘08 for six episodes and then returning in March of ‘09 for six more episodes, the show kept fans satisfied while waiting for season 3 of Ugly Betty to begin.

But it’s not totally necessary to have watched Ugly Betty to enjoy Mode After Hours. Besides some peripheral references to characters and plots in the show, the webisodes are pure Marc and Amanda and the actors playing them are more than adept at holding your attention. The inter-splicing of security camera footage with traditional third-person shooting establishes the concept simply and effectively.

'Ugly Betty' Star Ana Ortiz Hoping for Another Baby

She may be playing a lovelorn single mother on ABC's Ugly Betty, but there's plenty of support for actress Ana Ortiz's wishes to keep having babies. The 38-year-old star of the hit television series welcomed her first child Paloma just two months ago. Now, however, she's excited to have another one.

Ana Ortiz told OK! Magazine that she wants her daughter to have some company as soon as possible. During the Fashion Secrets of the South gift lounge held at NYC's Double Tree Metropolitan Hotel, she brought her kid in a stroller and discussed her plans.

"The sooner the better," Ortiz, who plays Hilda Suarez on Ugly Betty, announced. "We're definitely looking forward to having a playmate for her."

Even though she can't wait for another baby, the actress is still relishing in the special milestones of Paloma's life. "She just started smiling," Ana Ortiz exclaimed. "That's her latest thing - smiling. It's always in the morning, and it's like she's trying to laugh. It's almost like she's coughing - like a cat coughing up a hairball. It's so cute."

While her romantic relationships on Ugly Betty have been unsuccessful, her real life is far from it. She wed Noah Lebenzon in 2007 and their bond has just gotten stronger with Paloma around. Perhaps Hilda can learn a few things from her.

"It's incredible," she said. "It's so much deeper. Before, you're together, but there's never that sense of 'til death do you part, right? When she came along, I was like 'oh yeah, now I get 'til death do you part.' We are together forever. There's no one I respect more as a man and as a dad. He's surpassing my dreams. I'm really lucky."

She's also getting plenty of encouragement from her Ugly Betty co-stars, particularly Mark Indelicato. He plays her son in the show, and it's easy to see why these two stick to one another like glue.

"Mark and I are inseparable," Ortiz explained. She even said how his mom has become Paloma's fairy godmother. As for the actor, he said, "It's so great to see Ana be so happy with the baby." Maybe all that happiness will spread to season four? A bundle of joy might not work with the storylines, but it'd be quite a delightful change for Hilda if possible.

Ugly Betty hit by the recession

We hadn’t quite realised that the Ugly Betty wardrobe department had an unlimited budget but, apparently, it did – in the days of boom, that was. Now we’re in a recession, Wilhelmina Slater’s fashion choices have been slashed. ‘With the economic situation what it is, we scaled down in terms of the type of clothing that we’re getting,’ said the actress who plays her, Vanessa Williams. ‘There was a Naeem Khan dress that went for £1,500 and they watched it and watched and by the time we got it,it was, like, £450. So we are being mindful of the budget and waiting for markdowns on Ugly Betty.’

Wonder what sometime Ugly Betty stylist Patricia Field – and infamous recession-fashion hater – would have to say about that? Still, Williams has worn Rachel Roy, Giambattista Valli, Dolce & Gabbana and vintage Thierry Mugler, so it doesn’t sounds like they’re in completely dire straits yet.
