Jamie-Lynn Sigler Joining 'Ugly Betty'

Looks like Meadow Soprano is ditching her New Jersey digs for the big city.

Former HBO mafia princess Jamie-Lynn Sigler is joining the cast of Ugly Betty, a recurring role which will place her as the new assistant to Eric Mabius' editor-in-chief Daniel Mead, at New York's chic Mode magazine.

While that particular position was famously occupied by America Ferrera as the brainy, badly dressed Betty, she's was promoted last season to Features Editor of the fictional mag.

Sigler will debut on the show's season premiere this October, says EW, alongside Mabius, Ferrera and Vanessa Williams.

The actress first rose to prominence as the daughter of James Gandolfini and Edie Falco on The Sopranos.

TV Guide Network to Stream 'Ugly Betty' Series

TV Guide Network, which is 51% owned by Lionsgate, July 22 said it had acquired the cable and streaming rights to “Ugly Betty,” the ABC TV Emmy-winning series starring America Ferrera.

The deal, which is TV Guide’s first content license agreement since being acquired by Santa Monica, Calif.-based Lionsgate, includes access to existing and future episodes of “Ugly Betty,” which will begin airing weekly in fall 2010. TVGuide.com has the rights to stream up to five “Betty” episodes at a time online.

TV Guide Network, which reaches about 83 million homes, will repurpose new episodes of the series’ upcoming fourth season within two weeks of their primetime broadcast on ABC beginning in October.

“This acquisition is the first step of a larger, ongoing plan to strengthen our programming schedule and redefine TV Guide Network as a place to watch great television,” said Ryan O’Hara, president, TV Guide Network and TVGuide.com.

Lionsgate May 28 sold 49% interest in TV Guide and TVGuide.com to a private equity subsidiary of JPMorgan Chase for $123 million in cash. The mini-major acquired TV Guide in February for $255 million from Macrovision Corp.

Ugly Betty Cast Meet Ana's Ortiz's Baby

Ugly Betty star Mark Indelicato described the scene of very, very quiet pandemonium that broke out when co-star Ana Ortiz
introduced the rest of the cast to her brand new daughter.

The young actor, who plays Ana’s son on the show, said that America Ferrera, et al, were overjoyed to meet little Paloma for the first time — but had to curb their excitement so as not to wake her up.

“Ana brought Paloma to a table read of the first episode [of the new season last week], so everyone was there,” Mark told OK! at the launch of the new project from NSF Clothing to benefit The Humane Society of the US’s Stop Puppy Mills campaign.

“She was just crowded by everyone. Everyone wanted to kiss Paloma and hug Ana.

“But everyone was treating Paloma like a little porcelain doll. They wanted to just squeeze her, but she was just so calm.

“She was sleeping and yawning and you, know you you just don’t want to disturb the peace.”

And it sounds like Ana is treating the baby, who was born on June 27, a little bit like a doll herself!

“Ana’s so excited — obviously to be a mom — but also to dress the baby up,” said Mark. “She’s like, ‘Oh my God, I’ve got so many cute outfits! What is she going to wear today?’.

“She was just going on and on about what outfits Paloma’s going to wear tomorrow.”

Vanessa Williams: The Real Thing

Vanessa Williams is a singer, songwriter, actor and mother of four — and, apparently, an excellent multi-tasker. While performing on TV's Ugly Betty, she also found time to record her 13th album, The Real Thing, released this month.
“It's been interesting," says Williams, “because I have a whole new fan base now — a lot of young teenage girls who watch Ugly Betty with their moms. A lot of kids had no idea that I could sing. It's nice to have a flip side of the career, where I'm seen as a villain on TV but I get a chance to show the softer side as a recording artist."

The new CD incorporates plenty of Latin influence; the title track of the album is originally from Sergio Mendes' Brazil 77. “My father, who was a music teacher, played lots of different types of music in our house growing up. I always loved Latin music, and I always loved jazz. So, this is one of the songs from my past that I've always loved. When I thought about the direction for this album, I wanted to have Latin and Brazilian, but also stay with jazz."

Williams also performs Bill Withers' “Hello Like Before."

“Bill Withers reminds me of the days when we would go on these long road trips," Williams says. “We would have an eight-track cassette, and we'd have the Temptations, and Bill Withers was one of the favorites." She says she chose the song because “a lot has to do with love, and that's been a staple for the hits that I've had. But it also has to do with telling a story. I'm 46 years old — I've got lots of stories and lots of memories about love."

Ugly Betty slammed by Orthodontic Society

Specialists at the British Orthodontic Society said the US comedy gave a "detrimental" portrayal of wire braces.

The series follows the exploits of Betty Suarez, as she battles to make a career in the beauty-obsessed fashion magazine industry.

Now in its third season on Channel 4, Betty - played by actress America Ferrera - is still wearing heavy "train track" braces.

But according to dentists train track braces are very seldom prescribed to adults and even then are not worn for more than two years.

British orthodontists said they were worried the programme could discourage young viewers from seeking corrective dental treatment.Tracey Posner, of the British Orthodontic society, said: "It is irresponsible of the programme makers to portray Betty as 'ugly' because she wears prominent braces.

"Ugly Betty is in its third year on our TV screens and Betty remains in over-exaggerated, heavy 'train-track' braces.

"This is not a true reflection of orthodontic practice. It is highly unlikely an adult would wear braces beyond two years.
"Betty's braces are certainly intended to be seen by viewers as damaging to her appearance.
"People who wear braces are not ugly. People considering treatment should not be put off by such a stereotype.
"Many young people and adults see wearing braces as a right of passage, and enjoy the transformation."
Dr Colin Wallis, a specialist orthodontist, said: "Braces for adults and children are considerably more discreet than what is being depicted in Ugly Betty.
"There are many adults in the UK now wearing braces that are either completely clear, or are placed behind the teeth, so you may not even know that your best friend is wearing them.
"It is completely inappropriate to associate braces with being 'ugly', just as glasses have previously been an object of ridicule."
Tim Newton, professor of psychology at King's College London's Dental Institute, said: "A student of mine, Huw Jeremiah, has done some work looking at public perceptions of adults wearing orthodontic devices.

"Essentially he found that adults wearing stainless steel brackets were considered less intelligent than adults with no visible brace, so there are social impacts of wearing braces.
"There is a long body of psychological research that has found that we tend to think that 'beautiful is good' - that is that attractive people are more popular, socially skilled and intelligent than less attractive people."

Ugly Betty: Is Justin Getting a Sibling?

Ana Ortiz may be ecstatic about her new, real-life role as a mom, but that hasn't stopped her from gushing about her favorite Ugly Betty character (and possibly ours).

We caught up with the beauty at the Product 'n' Press event last month and got to hear all about her master plans for Hilda Suarez in season four, as well as which boy she thinks Betty should romance once and for all...Do you think Justin will ever get a sibling?
I'm hoping so. I would love that. I would love to see Hilda pregnant. I think she's going to be hysterical because she's very vain, and she likes her tight outfits. She's such a crack-up, but she also loves being a mother. I think that's where she gets the most pride, from her son and her family.

Will Ignacio's girlfriend, Elena (played by Lauren Vélez), come back from California?I hope she comes back. But I don't think she'll be back because she's on Dexter. Ignacio's heart will be broken, but I think now he's back in the game. It'll open up his dating life a bit more, which will be fun.

Will that give Hilda the opportunity to play matchmaker?[Laughs.] That's genius! I'm gonna pitch that. That's hysterical. She could set him up with one of her salon customers and keep trying to do that, and it's always a disaster.

Who would be your dream salon customer?Bette Midler. Jennifer Lopez. I would be in heaven. There are so many fabulous women.

So do you ever get sad that you don't get to work with some of the show's big guest stars?Yes! I always tell the producers, 'They have to come to Queens! Every once in a while, you've gotta bring some of these fabulous guest stars to Queens. Or else let us go to Mode once in a while!' But yes, I get jealous of the guest stars; I get jealous of the clothes they get to wear. Vanessa Williams is always walking around in the most fabulous, gorgeous things, and then I go to my closet, and it's like wah-wah.

Speaking of guest stars, how was working with Ralph Macchio? It was really fun. I remember him from back in the day, and I was a little starstruck at first. But he's so normal. He's so down the earth. He's a dad, he's a husband and he's such a New Yorker. He's so New York. It's hysterical.
There's been a lot of moving on this show, first from L.A. to New York, and now to Fridays at 9 p.m.I think it's really where it's supposed to be. Next season is going to be more New York because we're going to a later time slot at 9 p.m., so they're really going to push the envelope even more. I'm just really excited.

OK, so once and for all, who should Betty be with: Henry, Matt or Gio?Honestly, I think Betty should be with Betty for a while. It'd be really interesting for her to get back into that Betty groove and leave these guys in the dust for a little while and work on herself—get into a professional groove even more. But if I had to pick...It's a hard choice. They're all so juicy. I'm a little partial to Gio because it's Freddy Rodriguez. I mean, c'mon.Totes.

Season four ofUgly Betty premieres Oct. 9, at 9 p.m. on ABC.
What do you think? Is Ana right—should Betty fly solo for a while? And should we start campaigning for J.Lo to get her hair did in Queens?

Don't Laugh At Her-Lindsay Lohan Is…

Ok, seriously, how does she have any money left? She couldn't possibly still be living off the funds from her run on Ugly Betty. Those have got to be way gone by now!

Well, she must have enough tucked away because the almighty trainwreck known as Lindsay Lohan has a 3rd new business venture: a production company.

If Hollywood won't come to you, you force yourself on Hollywood!

Lindsanity has partnered up once again with Kristi Kaylor, who runs Lohan's 6126 leggings brand, to begin work on Unforgettable Productions. The duo plan to create "unforgettable TV and movie content" and have already laid the plans in motion for their first project called Faux Real, a TV show in the vein of Entourage, but set in the fashion industry.

And if that didn't make you LOL, just wait for this one: there's a game show in the works as well. The "docu-cause" show is tentatively called That's What Friends Are For and whatever the shitshow is about will in someone conjunction with charitable organizations.

Well, at least some good will come out of this.
While Kristi is a huge asset to La Loca's cause, we can't help but foresee this crashing and burning before lift-off. People barely want to act in films with Lindsay because she is so flaky. Who's gonna want her to be their boss?!

Diet Coke gets an Ugly Betty makeover

New York TV stylist Patricia Field has designed a limited edition Ugly Betty Diet Coke bottle.

Field, who's best known for managing the chic wardrobes of shows such as Sex and the City and Ugly Betty, has created a bright pink leopard-print bottle, which comes with stickers featuring outfits worn by America Ferrera's Betty in the current series of the Channel 4 comedy drama.

Unfortunately for Ugly Betty fans and memorabilia collectors, the bottles are only available at branches of Selfridges.

Breaking News:Betty White still not dead

I was watching Today's coverage of the Michael Jackson funeral yesterday, and after Michael Okwu's report about memorial preparation, I had to quickly rewind it (thank you DVRs) to make sure I heard what I thought I did. And I did. Okwu was listing some of the famous people buried at Forest Lawn, and he included Betty White. Meredith Vieira corrected a clearly confused Okwu, saying he probably meant Bette Davis.

Other people who are not buried at Forest Lawn: Betty Buckley and Ugly Betty.
