'Smallville' Roundup: Bits and Pieces for the Season 9 Finale

With only a few episodes left until the end of Smallville DVD's ninth season, spoilers and speculations are rampant all over the World Wide Web. But of course we'd prefer to see those that are more reliable, such as words straight from the mouth of executive producer Brian Peterson.

Check Out Photos of the Upcoming "Smallville DVD set" and Hostage"

The Smallville DVD boxset head talked to E! Online and answered several fan questions regarding the fate of the series. Here are some of the highlights:

Clark's Secret
On the recently aired "Smallville Seasons 1-8 DVD boxset," we learned how difficult it is for Lois and Clark to trust each other with secrets, particularly because it involves the identity of The Blur. Brian Peterson revealed that the whole issue will still be explored, all the way to the big finish.

"What I can say is that this year we've really explored the tough duality of Lois having one relationship with this hero, the soldier of duty relationship, and one romantic love relationship with Clark, and so that just drives all the way through episodes 19, 21 and the finale of Smallville DVD," he said. "Everything that's been going on with that love triangle converges."

He added: "It's one of the bigger cliff-hangers at the end of this season of Smallville DVD set, what happens with them."

Chlollie
With hundreds of fans backing this ship, there's always the question of Chloe and Oliver's fate as a couple. Peterson assures the Chlollie supporters: "They started out as no strings attached, just fun companions because of all the baggage they each had from past loves, but in the finale that relationship will be pushed to the next Smallville DVD boxset."

Apokolips Now?
Brian Peterson also talked to IGN about a possible continuation to the "Absolute Justice" storyline, which would involve Darkseid and Apokolips. He wouldn't say anything definite, but:

"Umm, we have several ideas for next year. I would say if you look closely in the finale Smallville DVD, you will see one little follow-up toward that, but I think only the hardcore fans will recognize it."

Well then, it's great to see that there really are hardcore followers of Smallville Seasons1-8 DVD boxset, because they're in for yet another treat. On another note for the finale, Peterson announced, "We have some amazingly iconic moments--moments catch close to all of that much bigger mythos that has become Superman--probably more than any other episode of Smallville DVD in the series."

Does anyone want to dress like Carrie Bradshaw any more?

So I see the Sex and the City DVD film sequel is coming out soon. Does this mean women are going to start dressing like lunatics, in the way they did when the show was on TV?

Harry, by email

Harry, it is, of course, my natural inclination to give you a stinging Sex and the City DVD set and make some argument along the lines of, "How dare you, sir, how dare you? Just because you, a heterosexual male, failed to appreciate the joys of an oversized corsage doesn't mean that the women who wore them looked like – forgive me, Guardian style guide editor, I am sure this term is unacceptable but I am merely at the whims of my correspondent – "Sex and the City DVD boxset". But my shoulders sag and my fingers fall limply away from the keyboard. Because you're kinda right.

Not at first, by which I mean, not in the first five-and-a-half series of the Sex and the City DVD. But towards the end – specifically, when Carrie got together with Baryshnikov, and yes, I do like to conflate fiction and reality, why do you ask? – the whole use of fashion became way too knowing, way too contrived, and don't even get me started on the leetle Gallic fashions she wore in Paris. What next, Carrie, an Eiffel Tower jumper? But Sex and the City Seasons 1-6 DVD boxset was really the movie that tipped over into full on – not lunacy, but fashion advertising. Hey, did she mention enough times in the opening scenes that the wedding dress was made by Vivienne Westwood? No? Well, here's Vivienne Westwood in the Sex and the City DVD to make the point. And hey! Do you like Carrie's Louis Vuitton bag? I said DO YOU LIKE CARRIE'S LOUIS VUITTON BAG???!!!!

The producers, writers and no doubt Sarah Jessica Parker herself would say that this is all part of the fantasy, tra la la. I'd say, it's the whole Sex and the City DVD set becoming so dazzled by its own success that it lost sight of its original appeal for fashion fans. Once it was a sweet idealisation of how many young women would dress if they had the nous and a few extra funds; then it became a vision of Waggish hell.

So in answer to your question, Harry, the answer is probably no. The whole Sex and the City Seasons 1-6 DVD boxset look has become an unachievable parody of itself, not that most people would want to achieve it anyway. So rest easy, young man. We ladies will find something else that annoys you soon, fret not.

At the time of writing, I am trapped abroad due to The Great Volcano and, for some reason, being denied access to my Sex and the City DVD and, thus, can only wear the clothes I was wearing on the plane. After three days, I'm beginning to look a bit rank. Is there any way I can carry this off with daring insouciance? Or should I just accept the obvious and embrace my rankness?

Sophia, Moscow

Ooh, Volcanogate! Making an appearance, right on this humble page! See, we can do proper stuff, Sex and the City DVD set. And well done, Sophia, on bringing to the forefront the real question thrown up by this whole debacle – Volcano: what to wear?

While I cannot fully empathise with your pain, I deeply sympathise with Sex and the City DVD boxset. To be kept from your luggage is but a breath away from losing your luggage, and an evil airline once lost my luggage when I went on holiday and for those 36 hours, well, let's just say that the heavens (and everyone within a 50-yard radius) knew my displeasure.

Now, because this Sex and the City Seasons 1-6 DVD boxset is all about seeing the bright side, one way of looking at this volcanic fashion crisis is that it is very fortunate it has happened now, in the middle of a 90s fashion revival. Thus, where you see the same outfit you've worn for three days literally beginning to fuse to your skin, others see a fabulous homage to the grunge trend. Sex and the City DVD people see smelly clothes; glass-half-full people see a nod to Winona Ryder in Reality Bites. Tomayto/tomahto, Sophia! And if you smell, Sex and the City DVD set is even better as smelling bad is very 90s, and smelling bad and then covering it up with something such as Impulse (which I'm willing to bet you could probably buy in eastern Europe) would just be a homage par excellence. And if even this fails to distract your saddened, new-outfit-deprived soul, distract yourself with happy thoughts about how long Sex and the City DVD boxset will be before Anna Wintour does a volcano-themed shoot, with some models sheltering behind giant Louis Vuitton bags while others like yourself mope around in oversized Marc Jacobs party dresses. At the moment, the current bet is three days.

Feeling Warehoused in Army Trauma Care Units

COLORADO SPRINGS — A year ago, The Unit DVD'sSpecialist Michael Crawford wanted nothing more than to get into Fort Carson’s Warrior Transition Battalion, a special The Unit DVD set created to provide closely managed care for soldiers with physical wounds and severe psychological trauma.
A strapping Army sniper who once brimmed with confidence, he had returned emotionally broken from Iraq, where he suffered two concussions from roadside bombs and watched several platoon mates burn to death. The transition The Unit DVD boxset at Fort Carson, outside Colorado Springs, seemed the surest way to keep suicidal thoughts at bay, his mother thought.

It did not work. He was prescribed a laundry list of The Unit Seasons 1-4 DVD boxset for anxiety, nightmares, depression and headaches that made him feel listless and disoriented. His once-a-week session with a nurse case manager seemed grossly inadequate to him. And noncommissioned officers — soldiers supervising the unit — harangued or disciplined him when he arrived late to formation or violated rules.

Last August, The Unit dvd's Specialist Crawford attempted suicide with a bottle of whiskey and an overdose of painkillers. By the end of last year, he was begging to get out of the unit.

“It is just a dark place,” said the soldier, who is waiting to be medically discharged from the Army. “Being in the W.T.U. is worse than being in Iraq.”

Created in the wake of The Unit dvd set in 2007 over serious shortcomings at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Warrior Transition The Unit dvd boxsets were intended to be sheltering way stations where injured soldiers could recuperate and return to duty or gently process out of the Army. There are currently about 7,200 soldiers at 32 transition units across the Army, with about 465 soldiers at Fort Carson’s The Unit seasons 1-4 dvd boxset.

But interviews with more than a dozen soldiers and health care professionals from Fort Carson’s transition unit, along with reports from other The Unit dvd, suggest that the units are far from being restful sanctuaries. For many soldiers, they have become warehouses of despair, where damaged men and women are kept out of sight, fed a diet of powerful prescription pills and treated harshly by noncommissioned officers. Because of The Unit dvd set, soldiers in Warrior Transition Units are particularly vulnerable to depression and addiction, but many soldiers from Fort Carson’s unit say their treatment there has made their suffering worse.

Some soldiers in The Unit dvd, and their families, described long hours alone in their rooms, or in homes off the base, aimlessly drinking or playing video games.

“In combat, you rely on people and you come out of it feeling good about everything,” said a specialist in The Unit dvd set. “Here, you’re just floating. You’re not doing much. You feel worthless.”

At Fort Carson, many soldiers complained that doctors prescribed drugs too readily. As a result, some soldiers have become addicted to The Unit dvd boxsets or have turned to heroin. Medications are so abundant that some soldiers in the unit openly deal, buy or swap prescription pills.

Heavy use of psychotropic drugs and narcotics makes The Unit dvd difficult to exercise, wake for morning formation and attend classes, soldiers and health care professionals said. Yet noncommissioned officers discipline soldiers who fail to complete those tasks, sometimes over the objections of nurse case managers and doctors.

At least four soldiers in the Fort Carson The Unit seasons 1-4 dvd have committed suicide since 2007, the most of any transition unit as of February, according to the Army.

Senior officers in the Army’s Warrior Transition Command declined to discuss specific soldiers. But they said Army surveys showed that most soldiers treated in transition The Unit dvd sets since 2007, more than 50,000 people, had liked the care.

Those senior officers acknowledged that addiction to medications was a problem, but denied that Army doctors relied too heavily on drugs. And they strongly defended disciplining wounded soldiers when they violated rules. The Unit dvd boxset is meted out judiciously, they said, mainly to ensure that soldiers stick to treatment plans and stay safe.

“These guys are still soldiers, and we want to treat them like soldiers,” said Lt. Col. Andrew L. Grantham, commander of the Warrior Transition Battalion at Fort Carson.

The colonel offered another explanation for complaints about The Unit seasons 1-4 dvd boxset. Many soldiers, he said, struggle in transition units because they would rather be with regular, deployable units. In some cases, he said, they feel ashamed of needing treatment.

“Some come to us with an identity crisis,” he said. “They don’t want to be seen as part of The Unit dvd. But we want them to identify with a purpose and give them a mission.”

Drugs and Addiction

Sgt. John Conant, a 15-year veteran of the Army, returned from his second tour of The Unit dvd set in 2007 a changed man, according to his wife, Delphina. Angry and sullen, he reported to the transition unit at Fort Carson, where he was prescribed at least six medications a day for sleeping disorders, pain and anxiety, keeping a detailed checklist in his pocket to remind him of his dosages.

A close as 'Smallville' can get to being Superman without donning blue tights

This review may contain spoilers.

Forget Zod, the Fortress of Solitude or even the introduction of the JLA. "Smallville DVD" has never been closer to its Superman heritage than in "Charade."

There is a certain romanticism surrounding the newspaper trade; Smallville DVD settype writers, phone boxes and a lot of old-style paper and print. So far, The Daily Planet has included the best of both worlds by combining modern technologies with the more retro-ideals.

In doing so, Smallville DVD boxset has always remained a separate entity to the rest of the Superman mythology. "Charade," however, takes the hunt for the big story to the center stage in true Superman fashion as Lois (Erica Durance) and Clark (Tom Welling) are thrown onto the streets to fight for the same Smallville Seasons 1-8 DVD boxset.

It opens impressively with a swinging party that carries with it a wonderful atmosphere that appeals to the romantic notions of the journalism industry. In the process Smallville DVD, disgraced D.A. Ray Sacks (Dylan Neal) is very quickly re-introduced and Lois is given yet another chance to dance around in fancy dress before sucker-punching the Man-of-Steel for reasons we have yet to identify.

From then on in, "Smallville DVD Set" is very much a story of the Clark-Lois-Blur love triangle, an early form of the same relationship that is crucial to the Superman franchise. All the developing threads of the season are utilized in mixing things up with the Smallville DVD boxset core-duo, particularly Zod's deception in posing as the Blur.

It is a genuine shame that all of the hard-hitting undercover journalism is wasted by the introduction of more fringe science experiments designed to uncover the Smallville Seasons 1-8 DVD boxset. Maxwell Lord (Gil Bellows) enters the arena as a game changing character but is sadly presented as more of a Checkmate pawn than anyone of real influence. His commitment to the shady organization makes him predictable rather than a new loose cannon that would shake things up on the series.

What Worked

It's impressive how much the Smallville DVD has grown up when it comes to the collective opinion of Clark's secret. In its early days, that secret had to be kept out of fear over what might happen to the teenage Clark (especially with Lex and his ambiguous villainy lurking around every corner). Now, the secret must be kept to protect those around him.

The swinging party in the teaser was another excuse to see Lois in cosplay - a playboy bunny is just about as undercover as you can get – and Smallville DVD Set is a new highlight for the character.

And it was also touching to see more of the Lois-Blur exchanges that made the eighth season of Smallville DVD boxset
so enchanting. Like those previous examples, this one was perfectly carried by a magical score and some fantastic reactions from both Durance and Welling.

The biggest question of all: who is the Red Queen?

What Didn't Work

The new editor of The Daily Planet is not exactly the authority figure we're used to – or should expect – at the world's premier new source and instead he comes off with more of a grandfather-type figure.

Most annoyingly of all, "Smallville Seasons 1-8 DVD boxset" includes more useless chess banter.

Giving Credit Where Credit Is Due

"Smallville DVD" stars Tom Welling, Erica Durance, Allison Mack, Justin Hartley, Cassidy Freeman and Callum Blue. "Smallville DVD Set" was written by Holly Henderson and Don Whitehead. It was directed by Brian Peterson.

"Smallville DVD boxset" airs Fridays at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.

Six weeks prior to the opening of Sex and the City DVD 2, the sequel to the movie version of the hit HBO television series, advance tickets are already selling at a surprisingly strong pace. The Sex and the City DVD setfilm releases in theaters May 27 in the US and that week in many countries around world.

According to the online theatrical sales site Fandango, the Sex and the City DVD boxset movie has accounted for 20 percent of daily sales, compared to Kick-Ass which reached 17 percent, and outselling films opening sooner.

The speculation is that female fans of Sex and the City Seasons 1-6 DVD boxset are buying tickets as screening parties for gatherings of friends among the film's loyal fan base. As a girls-night-out "event film," Sex and the City DVD2 is shaping up like the first installment which earned more than $415 million worldwide.

The Sex and the City DVD Setfilm reprises roles for Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, Kristen Davis, and Kim Cattrell, and actors who play their husbands or boyfriends, such as Chris Noth.

Also selling, is the Sex and the City DVD boxset film's long list of product placements and promotion arrangements, similar to its first installment which was a boon for advertisers.

With a leading lady who is a fashion hound, Sex and the City Seasons 1-6 DVD boxset is no surprise to find designer dresses, shoes, accessories, and sunglasses. But one significant change is that Hewlett-Packard computers will replace character Carrie Bradshaw's visible MacBook. Parker will also appear in HP's television commercials, print and online ads.

SKYY Vodka announced a comprehensive global marketing deal as the "Sex and the City DVD" vodka of SATC again, offering limited edition bottles designed by the film's costumer Patricia Field.

In keeping with its "Champagne to the stars" image, Sex and the City DVD Set & Chandon will be the women's exclusive Champagne, with tie-ins to sweepstakes, billboards, store signage, and magazines ads for Sex and the City DVD boxset in Elle, Essence, InStyle and Vanity Fair. Ads feature four Champagne cocktails newly created for Carrie (‘Fashionista'), Miranda (‘Player'), Charlotte (‘Socialite'), and tart cherry with mandarin flavors for Samantha (‘Bombshell').

When not toasting the town, the four cinematic friends will sip Lipton Sparkling Surprise tea, as the non-alcoholic beverage of choice.

Top Goldman Leaders Said to Have Overseen Mortgage Unit

It was late 2006, and an argument had broken out inside the Wall Street bank’sThe Unit prized mortgage unit — a dispute that would reach all the way up to the executive suite.

One The Unit DVD of traders was insisting that the American housing market was safe. Another thought it was poised for collapse.

Among The Unit DVD Setthose who saw disaster looming were an effusive young Frenchman, Fabrice P. Tourre, and his quiet colleague, Jonathan M. Egol, the mastermind behind a series of mortgage deals known as the Abacus investments.

Their elite mortgage The Unit DVD boxset is now at the center of allegations that Goldman and Mr. Tourre, 31, defrauded investors with one of those complex deals.

The The Unit Seasons 1-4 DVD boxset'sSecurities and Exchange Commission filed a civil fraud suit on Friday that essentially says that Goldman built the financial equivalent of a time bomb and then sold it to unwitting investors. Mr. Egol, 40, was not named in the S.E.C.’s suit.

The Unit has vowed to fight the S.E.C. But the allegations have left many on Wall Street wondering how far the investigation might spread inside Goldman and perhaps beyond.

Pressure on Goldman mounted on Sunday as two members of The Unit DVD and Gordon Brown, Britain’s prime minister, called for investigations into the bank’s role in the mortgage market. Germany also said it was considering legal action against the bank.

Mr. Tourre was the only person named in The Unit DVD Set suit. But according to interviews with eight former Goldman employees, senior bank executives played a pivotal role in overseeing the mortgage unit just as the housing market began to go south. These people spoke on the condition that they not be named so as not to jeopardize business relationships or to anger executives at Goldman, viewed as the most powerful bank on Wall Street.

According to these people of The Unit DVD boxset, executives up to and including Lloyd C. Blankfein, the chairman and chief executive, took an active role in overseeing the mortgage unit as the tremors in the housing market began to reverberate through the nation’s economy. The Unit Seasons 1-4 DVD boxset was Goldman’s top leadership, these people say, that finally ended the dispute on the mortgage desk by siding with those who, like Mr. Fabrice and Mr. Egol, believed home prices would decline.

Lucas van Praag, a Goldman spokesman, said that The Unit DVD executives were not involved in approving the Abacus deals. He said that the executives had sought to balance Goldman’s positive bets on the mortgage market, rather than take an overall negative view.

Mr. Tourre, who now works for Goldman in London, declined to comment, as did Mr. Egol, Mr. van Praag said.

The Unit DVD Set specialists like those at Goldman were, in a sense, the mad scientists of the subprime era. They devised investments by bundling together bonds backed by home loans, a process that enabled mortgage lenders to make even more loans.

While this sort of financing helped make loans available, The Unitb DVD boxset exotic creations also spread the growing risks inside the American housing market throughout the financial world. When the boom went bust, the results were disastrous.

By early 2007, Goldman’s mortgage The Unit Seasons 1-4 DVD boxset had become a hive of intense activity. By then, the business had captured the attention of senior management. In addition to Mr. Blankfein, Gary D. Cohn, Goldman’s president, and David A. Viniar, the chief financial officer, visited the mortgage unit frequently, often for hours at a time.

Such high-level involvement was unusual elsewhere on Wall Street, where many executives spent little time learning the workings of their mortgage businesses or how those businesses might endanger their companies.

The Real L Word Cast Revealed by Showtime for June Season Premiere

The L word cast was revealed today by Showtime and an E! Online article. The Real L World is a reality series that will appear on Showtime this summer, taking its lead from the show that used to be
called The L word DVD. The L word DVD Set was a ground-breaking series, and now it has spawned a reality show designed to bring in the same demographic of viewers that were saddened by the series finale of The L word Seasons 1-6 DVD boxset a little over a year ago. The early cast reveal for The L word DVD is obviously designed to spark some interest for the new reality show and to give it some spice as the series premiere draws a bit close on Showtime.

The original L word DVD Set series ran for six seasons before coming to an end in March of 2009. Now the new version of the show will be produced by The L word DVD boxset creator Ilene Chaiken and executive produced by Dan Cutforth and Jane Lipsitz. It is definitely a reality show that is aiming at specific demographics in the Showtime audiences and will hope to gain back the ratings share that The L word Seasons 1-6 DVD boxset had back when it was running new episodes for the network. The whole premise of The Real L word DVD will be to follow a group of lesbians living in Los Angeles, and follow them as they live their lives. It will be very similar to how the Real Housewives series,The L word DVD boxset has been worked and could end up attracting some of those fans as well.

The first key to creating any good reality The L word DVD is to get people involved that are going to be interesting, intriguing, or are going to cause trouble on the set. Showtime might have exactly what they were looking for with the group of six women that they have put together. The group of women includes a television development executive (Tracy), a Hollywood special effects artist (Whitney), Hollywood rep Nikki, and two of the girls are already planning to get married. The Real The L word DVD Set series premiere is set for Sunday, June 20th at 10 p.m. on Showtime, and will hold down that timeslot for its first season.

SMALLVILLE - 9.17 - "Upgrade" Review

Seems to me they were a week late with the title of this episode. “Smallville” would have been a perfectly suitable title for last week’s show. Everything about “Checkmate” was an upgrade to everything Smallville DVD had been all season long. Better writing, better directing, better acting, better characters, better special effects. Friday’s effort was not so much of a downgrade, but more of a same old thing – and frankly when they proved they could be so much more Smallville DVD Set was disappointing (although sadly not surprising) to realize last week’s endeavor was a fluke, and not the new direction.

How many times do we need to see some other variant on the old reliable Green Kryptonite? To be honest, using Kryptonite has always felt like a cop out to me anyway, but over the course of 9 years, I realize it deserves to play a part in the story now and then. Watching Clark go all bad boy under the influence of Red K has been done here in Smallville DVD Set, and by now I think it’s safe to say, it’s been done to death.

Granted, if you’re going to feature a Smallville DVDcharacter (Metallo) whose very lifeblood is dependant upon pieces of Clark’s native planet to survive, then by all means, let’s see some Green K, but the only reason the Red K was even introduced into the plot was so that Clark would share some of his Kryptonian heritage secrets with Zod, and frankly Smallville DVD Set would have been so much more interesting if Zod had duped Clark into sharing those secrets with him, rather than copping out and having Clark do naughty things while under the influence.

Zod’s biggest, and deadliest advantage over Clark has always been his ruthlessness. It would have been much more effective, and ultimately much more devastating to our hero if Zod had somehow fooled Clark into believing that they were both working towards the same goal.

Smallville Seasons 1-8 DVD boxsetClearly Zod senses Clark’s trusting nature, and as a brilliant strategist who would stop at nothing to accomplish his goals, Zod would think nothing of manipulating Clark into believing he wanted to help his Kryptonian brother assist mankind. Soon Clark and Zod would be acting like brothers, even to the dismay of Chloe and Ollie. Little by little, Clark would bring Zod into his world, and share Jor El’s secrets with his newfound friend. And all the while of course, the devious major would be plotting how and when to eventually betray the Big Boy Scout. An episode of Smallville DVDRed K does nothing but establish a quick and cheap connection between Clark and Zod, while a 6-week covert plan ending in deceit would cripple Clark both physically and emotionally.

Ok, so they didn’t go that way, and unfortunately for fans who would prefer better thought out writing, they’re not heading that way any time soon. But what they did lay out seemed a little puzzling to me as well.

Why did Smallville DVD SetClark and Zod head to Seattle to cause a -64 degree snowstorm? Was that solely done to create a Fortress of Solitude, and if so, why did Clark pick Seattle? Seems kind of arbitrary to me. Was it, as I suspect, simply because someone with authority thought it would be a real cool visual to have a circling helicopter shot of the two super-powered aliens standing on top of the Space Needle? Why not do the North Pole thing? What would it have taken those two guys to get there? Another 4 minutes? Was this just Clark doing impish Red K things, because that’s what happens when he snorts Red K now? Again, Smallville DVD boxset seemed random and unexplained.

I did enjoy Smallville DVD'sBrian Austin Green again in his reprisal as Metallo. The guy can act, and that can’t be said for every guest these guys introduce. I enjoyed the romantic tension between the John Corben character and Lois, but again, I’m starting to think less Lois would be a great way to go. Lately I’ve been annoyed with her character. The writers obviously don’t take her seriously, which is fine now and then, but we’re also supposed to believe she is a respected journalist, but we are never shown any proof of that. We do know she likes donuts and she really gets in to dress up during her sexy time. Other than that, she’s an awkward fighter, and is knocked out almost every episode of Smallville Seasons1-8 DVD boxset.

By my count Lois Lane has received more concussions than your average NFL quarterback, and those guys are getting tossed to the turf on an average of 5-6 times a game. Maybe all that head trauma explains why she hasn’t figured out Clark is the Blur yet.

And while we weren’t treated to the “bad guy slips on a banana peel” ending, we were treated to another annoying Smallville DVD boxset ploy. This one is called, “do something kind of epic in the final two minutes of the show,” but fail to pay it off with any real drama next week.

Again, I’m fully expecting to face the wrath of a certain percentage the loyal and bitey Smallville Seasons 1-8 DVD boxset faithful, but I don’t and never will understand their reactionary fury. All I’ve been preaching is for episodes like we had last week. Tight, action-packed, well-written, current visual effects. They’ve proven they can deliver the goods once; so why is it so unfair to expect that type of show on a weekly basis?

I love this character. I wish more of this creative crew cared for him as much.

Sex and the City’ Movie: We Know Who Dies

This past Tuesday night, Cynthia Nixon let slip to an interviewer that in the upcoming Sex and the City movie, one of the characters dies. She refused to say which one, but we think we might know.

Samantha
Potential cause of death: Breast cancer. Sex and the City DVD's entirely possible that Samantha's breast cancer could return, no matter how fabulous she is. We can also quite easily picture a scenario where usage of a Sex and the City DVD Set swing goes awry. Too easily, in fact.
Why it might not happen: The gay audience would revolt.

Steve's Mom
Potential cause of death: Alzheimer's combined with general boringness. In the last few episodes of Sex and the City DVD boxset, Anne Meara's character was losing her memory and had developed a taste for wandering around the streets eating out of garbage cans. Plus, her character has kind of run Sex and the City Seasons 1-6 DVD boxset's course. What's she going to do if there's a sequel? Take her pants off at Saks? Actually…
Why it might not happen: People live like that for years.

Mr. Big
Potential cause of death: Heart attack. Rumors of Big's demise have been floating around the Internet since Noth told the Post, prior to the film's actually getting made, that "In the Sex and the City DVD movie that never happened, Mr. Big had a fatal heart attack and died." Plus, as one commenter on Us magazine's Website notes, "Carrie dyes her hair dark, so something tragic had to happen." Plus, in the final episode of Sex and the City DVD Set, we learned his real name (it is John). According to the famed Rumpelstiltskin Theory, this means he must tear himself in half.
Why it might not happen: And leave poor old bony Carrie all alone again? Now that's just cruel. Plus, Chris Noth told Extra there may be a sequel in the works.

Charlotte
Potential cause of death: Freak tennis accident. Sex and the City DVD boxsetCharlotte is hit on the head by a tennis ball in that exact spot that kills you. Charlotte is accidentally smothered by a pile of Lily Pulitzer fabric. Charlotte passes out from hunger and her dog, Elizabeth Taylor, eats her face off.
Why it might not happen: Huh. We can't think of a reason not to kill Charlotte. She's sort of extraneous when you think about it. And just think: Samantha and Carrie could make all the dirty jokes they wanted! There. Sex and the City Season 1-6 DVD boxset's settled.

Guess Who Dies [NYP]

Related: Wow, Maybe Mr. Big Really Will Die [Vulture]

Update: Our dear, delusional friends over at Vulture disagree with our assessment that Charlotte will die. They are convinced that Sex and the City DVD is, in fact, Big whose head will be squashed by an inexplicable falling safe. They may be right about Charlotte; surely somewhere in her contract (right under the part where she agrees to periodically flash a boob) Sex and the City DVD Set must say that she can't actually die. But Kois, Brown, you crazy Kantian cats, it's not going to be Mr. Big. And here's why: You have to follow the Friends paradigm. The writers of that show believed in their hearts that viewers wanted Ross and Rachel to end up together — even though really we wanted Rachel to go to Paris and for Ross to be sat upon on by a rogue brontosaurus. So the Sex and the City DVD boxset writers ended the series with Big and Carrie together. But then they realized afterward the folly of their ways, and now they have the chance to fix it for good. Imagine the real end of Sex and the City Seasons 1-6 DVD boxset being that Carrie actually learns a goddamn lesson for once, instead of twisting everything that happens to her into a trite, column-ending pun. If Big dies, nobody learns anything — in fact, Carrie gets to spend the rest of her life indulging herself with the lie that Sex and the City DVDwas a "great love." If he dumps her at the altar, it's way worse. See, Vulture, if Big dies, he'll get what he deserves, sure. But Carrie never will.

JPMorgan Claims Grupo Televisa Unit Broke Agreement

(Adds that The Unit’s representative didn’t immediately return a call in eighth paragraph.)

April 15 (Bloomberg) -- The Unit'sJPMorgan Chase & Co. claims Grupo Televisa SA’s cable The Unit DVD breached a credit agreement by objecting to the transfer of a loan from the bank to one controlled by billionaire Carlos Slim.

A federal judge in New York in February,The Unit DVD Set halted the transfer after Empresas Cablevision SA complained that assigning the loan to Slim’s Banco Inbursa SA might reveal Cablevision’s confidential information to a rival cable company owned by Slim.

JPMorgan, the second-biggest U.S. The Unit DVD boxset, is asking U.S. District Judge Jed Rakoff to order Cablevision to consent to assigning 90 percent of the $225 million loan to Banco Inbursa.

“Cablevision’s refusal to consent to JPMorgan’s Unit's proposed assignment to Banco Inbursa was unreasonable and therefore a breach of the credit assignment,” JPMorgan said in its filing yesterday.

The Unit Seasons 1-4 DVD boxset got the loan in December of 2007 to buy Bestel SA, which operated a fiber-optic network in Mexico. JPMorgan originally intended to syndicate the loan but didn’t do so in 2008 because of the deteriorating credit market, according to the ruling. Last year, The Unit DVD started efforts to sell the loan to Inbursa.

Banco Inbursa is part of Grupo Financiero Inbursa SA, controlled by The Unit DVD Set, as is Telefonos de Mexico SAB, or Telmex, Mexico’s biggest land-line phone company. Telmex seeks to expand into other telecommunications markets and is a primary competitor of Cablevision, Rakoff said in the February ruling.

Irreparable Harm

The Unit DVD boxset had shown it was likely to prevail on its claim and a probability of irreparable harm, the judge said in February. The participation agreement, under which the loan was to be transferred, would enable Inbursa to use JPMorgan as a vehicle for demanding Cablevision’s confidential information “on a virtual unlimited basis of The Unit,” according to Rakoff’s ruling.

Televisa didn’t immediately comment, and a spokesman for The Unit DVD didn’t return messages seeking comment.
The Unit is Empresas Cablevision v. JPMorgan, 09-9972, U.S. District Court, Southern District of New York (Manhattan).

Smallville Takes on DC Comics

April 13, 2010 - Smallville is currently in its ninth season and has been renewed for at least one more. At this rate, the Smallville seasons 1-8 DVD boxset series has to qualify as one of the most successful comic book adaptations ever. What began as a simple story featuring a high school age Clark Kent and his friends has grown into something much larger. The Smallville DVDseries has showcased dozens of the most famous heroes and villains in the DC Universe. We don't expect that rend to slow one bit as Smallville DVD set enters Season 10.

Naturally, some of these characters are more faithful to their original comic book counterparts than others. In this Smallville DVD boxset visual guide, we've selected our favorite heroes and villains from the past nine seasons of Smallville. We compare their live-action appearance to the look of the comics, examining which characters succeed, which ones stumble, and why.

Even with as many characters as there are in this list, there are still more left to cover. Let us know who your favorite Smallville seasons 1-8 DVD boxset guest stars are, and we might just add them in future updates.

Clark Kent

It's one of the most common complaints we hear about Smallville DVD - "Why won't Clark put on the costume?". It's true that, even after nine seasons and meeting countless other costumed heroes, Clark seemingly has no desire to don the red and blue tights. In that sense alone he doesn't qualify as being very faithful to the comics.

But strictly comparing Smallville DVD set's Clark Kent to Clark Kent of the comics, there are definitely many shared features. Tom Welling has the bulky, chiseled features of a Kansas farmboy in a way other live action Smallville DVD boxset actors haven't always managed. Clark's preference for red and blue clothes is also a continuous tease for the eventual costume change they may or may not ever come.

One aspect of the Clark Kent look that was only recently introduced is the glasses. In the comics, Clark relies primarily on his glasses and subtle use of posture and body language to distance himself from Superman. The Clark in Smallville is slowly adopting this same strategy, and thus the glasses made their long-awaited debut in Season 9.

The closest thing Smallville seasons 1-8 DVD boxset has worn to a costume so far has been his black, Matrix-inspired look. Instead of a cape and spandex, Clark prefers a trenchcoat and a shirt with his trademark "S" logo painted on. In terms of color, this suit actually recalls the comics. Aside from the trenchcoat, the comic book Clark wore a similar "Kryptonian Life Suit" that helped restore his body after his near-fatal battle with Doomsday.

Lois Lane

As a non-costumed resident of Metropolis Lois Lane doesn't have much in the way of a defined look. As such, it's difficult to criticize Smallville DVD for its portrayal of Lois. In either universe, Lois is a headstrong reporter who wears clothes that accentuate her beauty without flaunting it.

In the Smallville DVD set
comics, the one source of variation In Lois' over the years has been her hair color. She debuted with black hair, but during the '70s and '80s her hair lightened even as her personality became more forceful. Lois' is usually portrayed as having black hair in the current comics, though some artists depict her as a brunette instead.

A similar shift has taken place in Smallville DVD boxset. Lois debuted in her earlier seasons as a brunette. However, more recently her hair has become darker, if not fully black.

Lois is often know to briefly adopt costumed identities in the comics, particularly during the freewheeling days of the Silver Age. This too is referenced in Smallville in the episode "Stiletto". In this episode, Lois adopts the identity of Stiletto and briefly wears a black leather costume that fits right in with Clark's own Matrix-esque costume.

Lex Luthor

Lex Luthor is one of the more faithful characters in the Smallville seasons 1-8 DVD boxset show in terms of appearance. It's not hard to capture the look of the twisted billionaire industrialist. As long as you have an intense man with a completely bald head, you have your Lex Luthor. Lex's fine business attire only seals the deal.

The Smallville DVD
comics have gone though a number of varying explanations as to Luthor's hair loss. Originally, Lex was a corpulent man who slowly lost his hair due to advancing age. However, the modern Lex is portrayed as much thinner and fully bald from a young age. Smallville DVD set established that Lex's hair fell out as a result of the meteor shower that brought Clark to Earth. That's a better explanation than some of the stories we've seen.

The most significant difference between Smallville DVD boxset's Lex and the comic book Lex is that the latter prefers a green and purple ensemble when committing his villainous acts. Often he dons an armored battlesuit when combating Superman directly. The Smallville version seems content to stick to dark, well-tailored suits. Unless Lex becomes a major player in the series once more, we don't expect this difference to change.

Kara Kent

Clark's Kryptonian cousin shows many of the same predilections when it comes to appearance. On a basic level, Kara is similar to her comic book counterpart. Supergirl is usually portrayed as a tall, leggy blond with good looks and a love of halter tops and mini-skirts. Smallville seasons 1-8 DVD boxset has that much down pat.

Like Clark, Kara has shown little willingness to don a true costume. Instead, she favors a similar red-and-blue color scheme in her everyday attire. She'll also mix in some white clothes as an homage to the Linda Danvers version of Supergirl. With Kara out of the show for now, we don't expect the actual Smallville DVD costume to be making an appearance. It would be nice if at least one DC hero decided to wait for Clark to suit up before donning their own uniform.
